How do you want to feel?

Desire-Map-QuestionI love Personal Development!  This is part of the reason why I do coaching as I get to development myself while I help others develop too.  It’s a win win scenario!  It’s also the reason why I love to read and listen to personal development books.  One of my favourite books is The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte.

The concept behind the books made so much sense to me – you are not chasing the goal itself, you are actually chasing the feeling that achieving that goal will bring.  Behind every goal is a feeling.  It’s a new feelings based, inside out way of setting and achieving goals.

The first step you take to creating a life you love is to figure out your core desired feelings (CDF’s) and take actions and set daily practices and intentions that will generate those feelings.

When I found out that you can become an official Desire Map Facilitator last month and officially teach this process to others, I jumped at the chance!  I have been re-visiting my CDF’s this past month (which is useful to do every year – especially at New Year!) and they are:- connected, rich, inspired, vibrant, light-hearted.

Connected

I love to feel connected to myself, my body, the universe and to other people.  It’s that feeling I get when I am with my partner or best friends.  When I am doing yoga or when in nature.  The essence of the feeling is being part of something.  Something that is bigger than you.

Rich

I toyed with the word ‘abundant’ at first, but that word wasn’t sitting with me and the word ‘rich’ resonated so much more!  It doesn’t mean rich as in loads of money (although that would feel amazing too!). It’s really that feeling I get when I have a new experience or travel somewhere new.  When I take the time to stop of look at everything I have in my life. That feeling of having a full life and of course that feeling you get when you have more than enough (including money) and I’m filled up and overflowing.

Inspired

Feeling inspired for me is when you get that awe when you are looking at something beautiful or listening to something motivating.  It’s the feeling that drives me to chase my passions.  It keeps me moving forwards.

Vibrant

I just love that word!  It’s that feeling you get when you are glowing from the inside, loving life and have endless amounts of energy and health.  It reminds me of the Roald Dhal quote ‘If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.‘   There is nothing worse than feeling sluggish, tired and un-sexy and vibrant is the total opposite of that!

Light-hearted

For me this is the feeling of being free, unencumbered, light and playful.  It’s the feeling I get when I can laugh at myself.  It’s when you are not taking yourself or life so seriously.  As my Dad always tells me ‘life is too short to take it so seriously’.

Do you know how you want to feel? I offer one-to-one Desire Map Coaching which you can find out more about here.
